Custom Curved Steel Structure Landscape Project
To promote the surrounding real estate development and improve the urban landscape environment, the local government planned the construction of a new public park. In order to create a landmark architectural feature inside the park, the design team developed a large freeform curved steel structure landscape installation with a highly artistic appearance.
Henan Jingtian was responsible for the steel structure fabrication and on-site installation work for this custom architectural steel project.
Complex Freeform Steel Structure Design
Unlike conventional steel structure projects, this project adopted a completely irregular curved tubular steel structure system with complex three-dimensional geometry.
The entire structure consisted of continuously curved steel pipes intersecting in multiple directions, creating a dynamic flowing architectural form. Since every component had a different curvature and spatial angle, the project could not rely on standardized fabrication methods or conventional automated processing equipment.
The fabrication accuracy requirements were extremely high because even minor dimensional deviations could affect the final overall appearance and installation alignment of the structure.
One-to-One Lofting and Manual Curved Steel Fabrication
One of the biggest challenges of the project was that all steel pipes required custom bending processing.
To ensure fabrication accuracy, Henan Jingtian's engineering and production team carried out one-to-one full-scale lofting according to the detailed construction drawings. Every steel component had to be manually positioned, adjusted, and assembled based on auxiliary dimensional data from the drawings.
Because the structure was completely irregular and freeform, there were no existing machines capable of automatically completing the fabrication work. The entire curved steel fabrication process relied heavily on the experience and technical skills of skilled workers.
The project required repeated measurement, alignment, and correction during the fabrication stage to ensure smooth structural transitions and precise spatial geometry.
The structure was fabricated using Q355 steel pipes with epoxy primer and fluorocarbon topcoat surface treatment systems to improve corrosion resistance and long-term outdoor durability.
On-Site Installation and Structural Alignment
The installation process also presented significant challenges due to the complexity of the freeform geometry.
During construction, the installation team had to strictly follow the engineering drawings and continuously verify spatial positioning and connection accuracy on site.
Because the structure included multiple intersecting curved members with varying angles and elevations, the installation sequence required careful coordination to maintain overall structural stability and visual consistency.
Henan Jingtian's installation team successfully completed the segmented assembly and structural correction work according to the planned construction schedule.
Final Result
After completion, the curved steel landscape structure became one of the most visually recognizable architectural features inside the park.
The project successfully combined architectural aesthetics with steel structure engineering technology, creating a modern landmark landscape installation that significantly enhanced the overall visual appeal of the public space.
