Colorful Tensile Membrane Structure Project for Zhengzhou Haichang Ocean Park

During the early planning stage of Zhengzhou Haichang Ocean Park, the project aimed to create a colorful fairy-tale-style environment to enhance the visitor experience and strengthen the visual identity of the park.

The design team selected colorful tensile membrane structures as one of the main architectural elements for the project and appointed Henan Jingtian as the membrane structure fabrication and installation contractor.


Complex Curved Membrane Roof Design

To create a highly attractive and visually dynamic roof system, the project adopted a large number of freeform curved membrane surfaces.

Because the membrane roof structure required complex spatial geometry, the internal steel support framework also needed to follow customized curved structural forms. This significantly increased both the fabrication difficulty and installation complexity of the project.

In addition to the curved geometry requirements, the membrane roof design also required multi-color membrane panel splicing while maintaining smooth surface tension and overall visual consistency after stretching.

Achieving both structural stability and aesthetic appearance at the same time became one of the key technical challenges of the project.


Curved Steel Structure Fabrication

After detailed engineering optimization by experienced designers and structural engineers, Henan Jingtian carried out the steel structure fabrication work according to the finalized construction drawings.

The project included a large number of multi-curved steel pipe components, requiring accurate bending, positioning, and assembly during the production process.

Due to the complexity of the curved geometry, the fabrication stage involved repeated dimensional verification and structural adjustment to ensure the final membrane installation accuracy.

The main structure adopted Q235 steel pipes to meet both structural requirements and architectural design needs.


Membrane Installation and High-Altitude Construction

The membrane installation stage presented significant technical challenges.

Because the roof system included multiple membrane color combinations, the membrane panel welding and thermal bonding processes required extremely high precision to ensure clean visual transitions between different colors.

At the same time, each membrane panel required precise cutting and dimensional control to ensure the membrane surface could fully fit the steel framework while remaining smooth and properly tensioned after installation.

Since the project involved roof construction across multiple building areas, the installation process also included extensive high-altitude operations and coordinated multi-zone construction management.

Henan Jingtian completed the membrane installation and structural construction work over a two-month on-site installation period.


Final Result

After completion, the project successfully achieved the colorful architectural effect expected by the client and became one of the most visually recognizable landscape features inside the ocean park.

The tensile membrane roof system has now been in operation for more than three years without quality issues, demonstrating reliable structural performance and long-term durability.
